Beginning May 9, 2015, the Tar River Center for History and Culture will sponsor a "Second Saturday" guided tour of the Louisburg Historic District. Tours will begin at 10 a.m. at the Franklin Male Academy building, located behind the Jones Performing Arts Center on the campus of Louisburg College. Volunteer tour guides will show visitors a museum-quality exhibit on the history of the academy and then lead an hour-long tour of a portion of the Louisburg Historic District. Structures dating from the late eighteenth century through the early twentieth century will be included. Those who take the tour will receive a free copy of the center's new 34-page walking tour booklet, which they can use to explore additional properties after the guided tour has ended. The tours will take place on the second Saturday of each month (except December, January, and February), beginning at 10 a.m. For more information, contact Maury York at myork@louisburg.edu or at (919) 497-3252.
