The office of the North Carolina Secretary of State on December 13, 2013, incorporated the Tar River Center for History and Culture Foundation. The foundation will seek funds with which to carry out the work of the Tar River Center for History and Culture. Work has begun on the application to the Internal Revenue Service for 501 (c) (3) status.
The North Caroliniana Society, Inc. has awarded the Tar River Center for History and Culture a grant of $500 in support of the center's 2013-2014 Lecture Series. "We are grateful to the North Caroliniana Society for its outstanding support," said Maury York, director of the TRCHC. The North Caroliniana Society, founded in 1975 and based in Chapel Hill, is dedicated to the promotion of increased knowledge and appreciation of North Carolina's heritage.
